Edgard Corona, the owner of Smart Fit, has revolutionized
the fitness industry with his low-cost gym concept. With over 365 locations in
Brazil alone, Smart Fit  has become the largest fitness chain in Latin America.
Corona’s innovative approach has attracted over 1 million members and generated
a record-breaking revenue of 1 billion reais in 2016.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Corona initially pursued a
career in chemical engineering, working in his family’s sugar and alcohol
business
. However, his passion for fitness led him to open his first gym, Bio
Ritmo, in 1996. Despite facing initial challenges and near bankruptcy, Corona
persevered and eventually expanded his business to include the Smart Fit brand.

Smart Fit’s success can be attributed to its affordable
membership fees, starting at just 59.90 reais per month. By offering a
no-frills gym experience with state-of-the-art equipment and minimal staff,
Corona was able to cater to a wide range of customers who previously couldn’t
afford gym memberships. The popularit y of Smart Fit led to its expansion into
other countries in Latin America, including Mexico, Chile, Peru, and the
Dominican Republic.

Corona’s aggressive business tactics and relentless drive
for success have not come without controversy. He has been known to clash with
competitors, and his cost-cutting measures, such as replacing personal trainers
with instructional videos, have drawn criticism from some in the fitness industry.
However, Coron a remains focused on his vision and continues to innovate,
constantly searching for new opportunities to expand his empire.

Outside of his business ventures, Corona leads a relatively
low-key life. He resides in São Paulo with his wife and five children, and
enjoys spending his free time at his countryside retreat in Campinas. Despite
his success, Corona remains dedicated to his fitness routine, working out t hree
times a week to maintain his own physical well-being.

As Smart Fit continues to dominate the fitness industry,
there is no doubt that Edgard Corona’s entrepreneurial spirit and determination
have played a signi ficant role in its success. With his unwavering commitment
to providing affordable fitness options, Corona has changed the way people
approach their health and well-being, making it accessible to all.
