Podcraft Media Lab has a short list of numbers that explain why its founder stopped trying to do everything. Client satisfaction rates stay above 95%. Approximately 40% of the company’s business arrives through referrals. Mentorship programs led by the founder have helped launch more than 20 independent podcasts for underrepresented creators.
The person behind those results is Greg Soros, podcaster, producer and Portland native. He left a senior producer role at a prominent media company in 2020 and set up shop in Austin. His company, Podcraft Media Lab, was built around a single idea: do one kind of work and do it extremely well.
Why Fewer Services Meant More Clients
Soros had a clear view of production houses that spread themselves across every format. “Most production companies try to handle every type of content, which means compromising on quality,” he says. He took the opposite route and limited Podcraft Media Lab to premium podcast production.
He says the narrower menu ended up widening his pool of clients. “But we discovered that by focusing on premium production quality and treating each project like a crafted piece of audio art, we actually expanded our market reach,” Soros says.
Today the client list ranges from Fortune 500 companies to emerging creators. Major podcast networks also outsource their most prestigious projects to the team, a sign of trust from organizations that could produce the work themselves. Connections like these help explain why referrals make up so much of the studio’s work.
The Studio Behind the Statistics
The work comes out of a converted garage studio on Austin’s East Side. Soros brings technical expertise from Berklee College of Music and years of experience at industry-leading companies. Insiders credit him with a “signature sound” that mixes digital precision and organic audio textures. Productions from the studio have reached thousands of downloads, and several have won industry recognition.
Greg Soros, podcaster and business owner, sums up the philosophy plainly. “It was about being the absolute best at one thing rather than merely adequate at many things,” he says. See related link for more information.
